“A beautiful 3-bed, 300 year old converted Stables with luxury touches in an historic and quiet settlement by Loch Fyne”
Jenny Gilmour, Love Argyll
The Stable Cottage
Located in an ancient and secluded settlement dating back to 1479, the Stable Cottage sits on the edge of Loch Fyne, on what we think is one of the most picturesque stretches of Britain’s longest sea Loch.
The Stable Cottage is a new self-catering property brought to you by Love Argyll, owners of the Blue Cottage by Loch Awe.
This newly refurbished 3-bed cottage sleeps up to 6 people and offers stunning views to Pennymore Point and beyond to Loch Fyne.
The cottage is just a short walk from the Point and the beautiful shoreline, perfect for soaking in the breathtaking scenery of Argyll. Along the way you may even catch sight of seals, dolphin, eagles, numerous sea birds, deer, red squirrels and abundant wildlife, as the hamlet of Pennymore is also surrounded by the 3000 acre Forest of Kenmore.
This creates a haven of tranquillity and that wilderness, get away from it all feeling. And yet the cottage is just 2 miles from the village of Furnace further down the Loch and giving access to the main road, for day trips exploring Argyll’s coast and heartlands.
We’ve created day trip itineraries for the nearby Blue Cottage at Loch Awe, and these are all easily adaptable for trips from the Stable Cottage.
Furnace is also just a 10 minute drive from the historic Argyll coastal town of Inveraray, where you'll find pubs, cafes and restaurants, including the characterful George Hotel and the acclaimed Samphire Seafood Restaurant. Inveraray also boasts gift shops, a well-stocked Co-op and garage.
Attractions in and around the town include Inveraray Castle and Gardens (as featured in Downtown Abbey), Inveraray Jail, Loch Fyne Ales Brewery, the ancient Achindrain Township, the Adrkinglas Woodland, which houses the UK’s tallest tree, and the beautiful Crarae Gardens.
The settlement of Pennymore is steeped in history, with records showing ownership by the MacIver family as far back as 1479, and later owners and visitors including the Campbells, Clerks and even Queen Victoria!
Lovers of outdoor pursuits are spoilt for choice with nearby golf courses at Inveraray, Dalmally and Lochgilphead and abundant forest trails to walk or cycle such as Ardkinglas Woodland Garden, Glen Nant National Nature Reserve and Achnabreac Forest. And by arrangement we can provide golf clubs, bicycles and fishing gear to help you make the most of your break.
And back at the cottage you'll be able to luxuriate in the comfort of a holiday home with underfloor heating, a wood burning AGA stove, a modern fitted kitchen with all appliances, and one en-suite and one luxury bathroom - perfect for relaxing after a full day in the Scottish countryside.
Guests at the Stable Cottage receive a free welcome hamper with essentials such as milk, eggs and bread plus local produce that can include jams and Loch Fyne Ales.
NB: The 1.5mile track to Stable Cottage is a private unsurfaced road that starts at Furnace Quarry and, while regularly maintained, there are sometimes a few lumps and bumps. So please be aware.
You will have no problem driving a regular car along the track, although a vehicle with higher clearance, like an SUV, is ideal.
